Lagos Food Bank Initiative (LFBI) is Nigeria's first food bank. Since 2016 it has fought hunger, reduced food waste and treated malnutrition through school feeding (EDUFOOD), child nutrition (NUMEPLAN), emergency food assistance, family farming, job placement and a national network of partner food banks. It became a certified member of the Global FoodBanking Network in 2025.
The challenge
A food bank at this scale is a logistics operation, a fundraising operation and a volunteer operation at the same time, and all three depend on technology. The website takes monetary and in-kind donations, registers volunteers and beneficiary organizations, and publishes impact reports to partners and funders. When a system goes down or a security rule blocks legitimate traffic, donations stop and volunteers can't sign up.
What we did
- Infrastructure and uptime: ongoing IT support and management of LFBI's digital infrastructure, including the web platform, internal systems and staff tools
- Security: diagnosed and resolved web application firewall (WAF) blocks that were stopping legitimate visitors from reaching the site, while keeping protection in place
- Web platform: maintenance and development on the WordPress site that runs donations, volunteer registration, program pages and reporting
Results
- A platform serving an organization with 3.5 million beneficiaries, 170 communities, 30,200 registered volunteers, 600 corporate partners and 150 NGO partners since 2016
